With the downturn of the economy should I put off purchasing a new motorcycle?
chainbart asked:
I was planning on buying a new bike next spring
Nothing wrong with the current bike I own now
Should I save my money just in case I lose my job?
or/ say what the heck spend the money on a new bike
I work in state government, job is secure if we raise taxes

Great question!
It depends on you, and your job. If you are working in a factory, I would say not to buy a new bike, unless it is a cash sale. If you are an AIG executive, yeah, I would go for it!
If you work in alternative energy, your future looks bright!
Me, I was thinking about getting a new bike myself, but I am happy with the one I have now, so no, maybe next year for me.
you should buy if you can afford it. but buy american, it will help the economy recover faster. buy a victory, HD or kawasaki as they are made here.
These days, no job is recession proof. Before purchasing a new bike, you should make sure all debt is paid off and that you have saved for 6 months of living expenses. That way, if something happens, you won’t feel pressured to sell your new bike if times get rough.
Why not if work is secure. Enjoy life is more important whatever nobody knows when the recession will end up. Do you think that the government will let the country finish.
No matter what you are buying, or your job, you should have at least half the price of the bike as a down payment.
I have a 1200cc HD and it get 51 MPG. It has been a blessing with the high gas prices.
Go for it, but dont buy a NEW bike. There are tons of slightly used bikes out there. I recently bought a bike that was 8 months old and only had 600 miles on it. The guy told me that he bought it new for $18,000 out the door. I bought it from him for $11,000. There are tons of people out there that buy a new bike then dont use it. After a few months they realize this and need to get rid of it. Be patient and keep your eyes open. Keep your eyes on sites like Craigslist, motorcycletrader, and Ebay Motors. I got the bike I wanted at a fraction of the cost.
Good luck and ride safe.
When business is bad, dealers tend to hold prices down, try to run on a break-even basis for a year or so, just to survive. Once things return to normal, the cork is out of the bottle and prices rise to what they should have been all along.
At least that’s what I told my wife. The brand new Suzuki C109R gleaming outside in the sunlight is proof of the validity of my argument. g
