I’ve gotten many benefits from this society why shouldn’t I pay more? Why should the middle and working class be taxed beyond their means. This is what WILL happen if the rich and upper middle get more breaks.

Abby, honey, tax breaks are given to those who pay taxes. And when children pay taxes (as I did form age 13 on…) they ARE given a tax break.

If you close loopholes etc. like Obama wants, and heavily taxing large corporations, we lose jobs. The middle class workers may pay less taxes, but what good does that do if they don’t have jobs? I have no sympathies for corporate greed, but I am realistic and thankful for large corporations creating so many jobs for us middle class who want so many tax breaks for ourselves.

Our economy is still strong ???? People, our economy is on life support. Does anyone understand debt? that as debtors our credibility and position on the global stage is seriously impaired?
The only things propping us up are the debt itself, (if we go down all of our4 buying and debt go with us)

1. Not give middle class tax breaks
2. Cut funding for majority of community programs
3. Let the deficit rise to around 5.7 trillion

There is no possible way he can keep all his promises. I don’t understand why his supporters can’t understand this.

I heard from some doom gloomers that gas may reach 12 a gallon? Even at 4, this is having terrible effects on economy….so at what point do we go into a huge downturn?
I have slowed down by 10 mph on highways but MOST people are still going 90.

I also keep my motor tuned and oil changed and tires inflated.

Why can’t the government give tax breaks to people who share a home – whether brother and sister, students at school, senior citizens, husband and wife, etc. What difference does it make if they’re married or not to get a break on their taxes? Why can’t they get a tax break by filing as a shared household? Wouldn’t this make more sense?
Ken, I stand corrected. I’m probably older than you and remember when there were tax breaks for families.

My point in this question is not about the sanctity of marriage, but why our tax structure is such that senior citizens can’t get a better deal by sharing a house than by living in separate houses. Wouldn’t this help to reduce the use of natural resources by combining households or singles where possible – by choice? Heating one house instead of two, etc. Probably there would be less suicides in seniors over the holidays this way too.
