My husband recently got out of the Army on a medical board. With that, he recieved a severance pay that is not taxable; however it is taxed at first for some reason (it is like this for all military separation pays). He receieved the pay last year, but his VA rating didn’t come back to us until after Jan. 1. Does anyone know how to file to receive these taxes back? I know, from other people who have had the same thing done, that we are going to receive the entire taxed amount back, but we just don’t know how to go about filing it and none of the professional tax places we have called have ever dealt with this. Anyone have any advice or has anyone gone through this before? Thank you!!!

Are the tax breaks only felt when you file your yearly taxes and get a refund, or can they be felt on a monthly basis once you purchase? I really need to buy because rent in southern California is so high, but as a single mom, I am not sure if I can afford to buy. Any insight you have on this matter will be appreciated.

I have a savings account and an cd account that is yiels like 4.65%. And I noticed that there is some deductions at the years end. I was just wondering when you file your yearly taxes, is possible to get this refunded. If so, how?

Example if I did NOT file taxes for 2006 and I just now decided to file taxes for earned income of $18,000 as a 1099 form.
For the state of California. About how much money will I have to pay back in taxes and how much will I have to pay in late fees?
